"Education is not the learning of facts, but the training of the mind to think." Says Albert
Einstein. We venture to provide the student with the guidelines to shape them into a versatile
human being ready to take up all challenges that life throws at them.To realize this, we have a
curriculum that initiates an urge to learn within the child and gently guides them to try out
untested paths of learning.
Ably guided by a faculty that prides itself on grooming some very well-rounded scholars, the students in this institution receive the right environment for integral growth through a variety of cultural and extracurricular activities. At this sanctuary of learning, we work as a team, all doing our part with enthusiasm, perseverance, and faith in God. Our results both in the board examinations and other competitions have been excellent, and the students are constantly improving their previous performances. At this sanctuary of learning, we work as a team, all doing our part with enthusiasm, perseverance, and faith in God. Madras today occupies a central place in Tamil Nadu. To the north of this sprang up what was called "Black Town". However this was renamed "George Town" after the visit of George ,in 1906.In this small hamlet of George Town, begins the history of St.Francis Xavier’s Anglo Indian higher secondary school run by the Selasian Sisters of Don Bosco. The Archbishop of Madras, Mgr. John Allen, had requested the Major Superiors to send the Salesian Sisters to take up the direction of the mixed Anglo Indian Primary and Kindergarten Parish School , at Broadway in George Town, managed by the Parish Priest Fr. John Sdb. There were lady teachers assisting him in the work. The three missionaries, Sr. Appiano Luigina, Sr. Marnetto Caterina and Sr. Borrini Giacomina arrived in Madras from Tanjore on 15th June 1926.
In 1926, the school was entrusted to the Salesian Sisters, who undertook the work to improve the standard of living. The Sisters began teaching in this mixed school of about 280 children in seven classes. Till 1926, Mrs. Gonsalves was functioning as the headmistress, but from 7th January, 1927, the School Management was transferred to the Salesian Sisters. They took full charge of it and Sr. Matilda Watts was made the headmistress. Sr. Appiano Luigina became the Correspondent on the 4th February, 1927. The School worked independently, under the management of the Salesian Sisters.
On 14 September, 1927, the plan for the new school building was approved by the Director of Public Instruction. He had also sanctioned an additional grant for half of the expenses. On October 31st , the Archbishop, Most Rev. Allen John laid the foundation stone. On 10th January 1928,the new school building was completed with four classes.
On 29 January, 1928, the Parish Priest vacated his residence and the Sisters converted it into three rooms, a small office, a staff room and a library. With the arrival of Sr. lda Papa in 1929, the Sisters conducted painting classes in the evening for young people. On 12 September, 1930, when Sr. Appiano Luigina was the Superior and Correspondent of the School, the construction of a compound wall and a gate was started. The plan was approved with the sanction of 50% of the grant by the Government. On the 29 January, 1931, the construction of the Compound wall was completed and the gate was fixed. In the year 1934-1935, the classes were held in two buildings: The Kindergarten classes and Std - I ,in a well built airy classroom and Std. Il to IV in the teachers' room and the library in the old building. On 22 May, 1935, a room adjacent to the school building was constructed to serve as the school library. On 20 June, 1936, a room was constructed on the first floor and on 1 March, 1937, renovations started in the dilapidated school building. Classes were shifted to a thatched shed. In 1938, with the permission of the Inspector of European Schools, V Std. was introduced. In the following year the Middle School was started without obtaining prior permission from the Government . At St. Francis Xavier's, the personnel in the community and the students in the School increased .
